Refund Scenarios

Scenario A: Voluntary Cancel (Before Departure)

Section A of fare conditions applies: both fares are refundable before departure. Saver is only non-refundable AFTER departure.

  • Flex outbound cancel fee: $125/person (Fare Rules 1)
  • Saver return cancel fee: $150/person (Fare Rules 2)
  • Total cancel fees: $275/person = $550 for 2
  • Non-refundable taxes/surcharges: ~$50/person (conservative)
  • Total lost: ~$325/person = ~$650 for 2
  • Refund: ~$1297/person = ~$2595 for 2

Scenario B: Emirates Cancels the Route

If Emirates cancels BEY-DXB or DXB-HND/NRT due to conflict:

  • Full refund regardless of fare type
  • Emirates must offer: full refund within 7 days OR free rebooking
  • Refund: $1622.44/person = $3244.88 total

Difference vs voluntary cancel: $650 more. Strategy: hold the ticket and wait for cancellation.

Out-of-Sequence Rule

You cannot skip the outbound and keep the return. Per fare conditions: "Failure to utilise ticket as booked on any segment will result in all subsequent segments being cancelled. No-show fee will apply." No-show fee: $250-$300/person.

You must cancel the entire ticket, not just one leg.

Recommended Strategy

  1. Book alternative flights now (BEY-CDG + CDG-Tokyo + CDG-BEY)
  2. Hold the Emirates ticket until March 18
  3. Monitor Emirates status daily for route cancellations
  4. If Emirates cancels before Mar 20: collect full $3244.88 refund
  5. If Emirates has NOT cancelled by Mar 18: voluntarily cancel for ~$2595 refund
  6. Call Emirates support (+971 600 555 555) to request conflict waiver
